The U.S. Copyright Office Just Registered My Book
Nov 10, 2025It started in a hospital
I have told this story before, but it bears repeating because it is the honest origin of Built for Freedom.
My wife Erica had just given birth. The extended family had descended. She had a forced smile. And my phone rang.
One of my largest clients had an equipment problem. I was the only person on the team who knew the system. I could not leave, and I could not stay.
That moment is when I decided something needed to change. Not tomorrow. Not when things calmed down. That day.
The years between the decision and the book
I spent the next decade systematizing everything I had learned.
Not to write a book. To solve the actual problem. I wanted Solpak to run without me holding it up. I wanted to be able to be at a school play without the business falling apart.
The Sherpa Method was the answer I built. The book was the decision to share it.
What Library of Congress registration means
Library of Congress Control Number 2024918818.
That number places Built for Freedom in the permanent record of the United States Copyright Office. It is not a bestseller list. It is not a sales rank. It is a declaration that the work is real and that it belongs to its author.
For a method that I spent years developing through real company experience, there is something fitting about that permanence.
Who the book is for
I wrote it for the founder who is working harder than anyone in their company and still feels stuck.
For the entrepreneur who started a business to be free and built a trap instead.
For the person who has the drive but not yet the map.
The Library of Congress registration made the map official.
But the map was always real. Long before anyone stamped it.
