The Night I Slept in My Car

I became the youngest franchisee in the history of Student Painters in Canada at 17.
My mother had vetoed the whole thing. I proceeded anyway.
That summer I managed painters, handled client problems, carried a roll of quarters to return calls from payphones, and got a BDC loan to buy a rusty Hyundai Pony. I did all of it while my mother refused to acknowledge any of it.
One night she told me to choose between the franchise and living in her home. I packed my things and moved to a friend's basement.
I finished the season. Closed it with some difficulties and unfinished business.
I coauthored “ My Resiliency In Business” in French. With fellow entrepreneurs who faced their own challenges in a big way.
People ask where the resilience comes from.
I think about the Pony and know. IYKYK.
