Solpak Building - 14 Day Series
Sep 28, 2018This is the building.
Twenty years ago, Solpak was a phone, a laptop, and a kitchen table. No warehouse. No team. No clients. Just a problem I thought I could solve better than anyone else.
I was right about the problem. I was wrong about almost everything else. How long it would take. How many times I would have to start over. How much of myself it would cost.
A few months ago, my high school friends came over for a dinner we hosted in our corporate kitchen. Some of them had seen the posts over the years. But when they walked through the door, that is when it became real for them. You could see it on their faces. "You actually built this."
I did. But the building is not the point.
From the outside, it looks like glass and steel and a sign with a name on it. From the inside, it is more than fifteen people solving problems, arguing about priorities, laughing in the meeting room, and building something together every single day. The building is just the shell. What happens inside it is the whole story.
Most founders quit before the lesson arrives. Not because they are weak. Because they are solving the wrong problem and the frustration makes them think the whole thing is broken.
It is usually not broken. It is just not clear yet.
This building exists because I eventually got clear.
Over the next 14 days, I am going to show you what is inside. Not to impress you. To show you what 20 years of building actually looks like up close.
