Building Without Becoming the Bottleneck

Most entrepreneurs start a business chasing freedom.

What they get instead is a job they cannot quit, a team that cannot move without them, and a calendar that owns every hour of their life.

I know that trap because I lived in it for years.

Solpak started with me doing everything. Sales calls. Invoices. Equipment troubleshooting. Late nights in the office. The business was growing, but I was getting buried. The harder I worked, the more essential I became. Every new client added another dependency. Every new hire added another question only I could answer.

That is not a business. That is a trap with revenue.

Ben Olmos invited me on DissedMedia: A Startup Story to talk about how I got out of that trap, and what I now teach other founders through Entrepreneur Sherpa.

We covered the Sherpa Method. Three challenges every entrepreneur has to face if they want a business that runs without depending on them: Growth, Sustainability, Service. We talked about the difference between delegating and abdicating, and why most founders confuse the two. We talked about why your best early hire can quietly become your biggest scaling obstacle. We talked about the mantra that actually holds up under pressure: trust but verify.

The thing I wanted listeners to take from this conversation is simple.

You can be inside your business every day. You just should not be trapped inside it.

That is what Built for Freedom is really about. Not stepping away. Not exiting. Building something so well that your presence becomes a choice, not a requirement.

Episode 61 of DissedMedia: A Startup Story is live on April 27, 2026.
